Según informan medios de prensa locales, los abogados del gobierno argumentan en la demanda que la ley viola la Constitución estadounidense al adjudicarse competencias en materia de inmigración que corresponden al Gobierno federal. --------------------------------- (Agency) The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit challenging Arizona’s recent enacted immigration law known as SB 1070. The Obama administration wants to throw out the country’s toughest immigration law and keep other states from copying it. The lawsuit states that the SB 1070 displaces the federal governments’ “pre-eminent authority” under the Constitution to regulate immigration. The move sets the stage for a high-stakes legal conflict over states’ rights at a time when politicians in some other states have indicated they want to follow Arizona’s lead, such as Florida. The ACLU along with a coalition of leading rights groups, filed a lawsuit in May challenging the constitutionality of the law. Supporters of the law said the lawsuit was unnecessary and blamed the federal government for neglecting problems at the border’s for years. Governor Jan Brewer called the complaint “ a terrible bad decision” and defended the law as “reasonable and constitutional.” The law requires police to question a person’s immigration status if there’s a reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country illegally, and the reasonable suspicion could be just based on race.
